Do all farmers want a Badger cull?
The media is giving the impression that all farmers want an un-limited Badger cull.
Many do.
There are also some who are horrified by the prospect as they believe that having healthy Badgers on the farm, helps to stop TB infected Badgers coming onto the land as the healthy ones deter infected ones from coming into their territory.
We live in a healthy Badger pocket in a highly contaminated area and can understand the frustration felt by farmers whose stock keep falling ill but surely there is an alternative to an indiscriminate cull, which may well lead to more infected cattle herds as infected Badgers occupy presently clean sets – if healthy Badgers are culled.
If a test could be found to see if a Badger is carrying TB then the Badgers in an infected set could be put down and their set filled in on the same day. Healthy Badgers from healthy sets could be left alone. This would leave a healthy Badger population and with the infected sets filled in there would be less chance of the healthy animals becoming infected.
There is a rumour that TB is also in the Deer herd, if this is true – Brock may be fair game for a government but would they dare to cull Bambi? If one is checked and not the other the problem will still not be solved.
