YES – To Using Brand as Web Domain Suffixes
I came across an announcement yesterday on BBC News website that a global internet body has voted to allow the creation of new website domain suffixes which means the largest change for the online world in years.
Basically they have voted to allow companies to purchase their brand name as suffixes for example our business could have www.bmyoffice.bmyoffice instead of www.bmyoffice.com

But I think this decision only effects the big brands as to apply for your own suffix cost a whooping £114,000!
Do you think that this is unfair for smaller businesses?

To me this is another example of the big get bigger whilst the small suffer on, personally this would have no interest to me, one reason being £114000 is a ridiculous ammount and would never pay for itself for me, and in my opinion also offers a much bigger chance of misspellings and confusion
It’s not just the money. Apparently, you have to demonstrate the technical capability to run a domain suffix.
I don’t think this is a good move and I hope it isn’t an indication of smaller businesses and individuals having their creativity stifled.
It looks stupid to me. Why would you want a website address that involves needless duplication and a move away from a well understood format?
We could club together and buy “Devon”!
It does offer some entrepreneurial opportunities, although to have one using your own name isn’t perhaps such a good idea!
We would need to come up with 1140 people to put £100 each in – I’m sure someone will make money on it!
